If I had to describe my artistic journey, it would resemble two paths diverging at the edge of a forest.
I have two great passions: filmmaking and acting in theatre. In theatre, my focus is primarily on exploring different roles as an actor. But when it comes to movies, I’ve chosen to step behind the camera and tap into the creative space as a director. For me, creating art is what drives me to wear many different hats throughout my career.
On one hand, my background in theatre has given me the chance to work with renowned artists around the world. I've performed across India, Japan, the UAE, Singapore, and here in Canada. While working in theatre, the ambition to explore visual media began to take root in me. In 2003, I transitioned into television, starting out as an actor and program host. It was during this time that I discovered the creative opportunities behind the camera, marking the moment my path began to split. The experiences outlined in my biography have not only enriched my life but also helped me develop the skills I now use as a filmmaker.
As I worked in both television and theatre, my desire to take my talents to a larger platform grew. This is when I began developing ideas for scripts. Then, I made a life-changing decision to move to Canada, leaving behind my role as a senior producer in television. I always dreamed of making my own movie, but the challenges of immigrant life, including adjusting to a new country and supporting my family, took priority. As a result, I had to put my filmmaking aspirations on hold for a while.
In 2018, I finally began working on my debut feature film, Rameshan Oru Peralla, which was made in my native language, Malayalam. The film had its world premiere in Edmonton on June 9, 2019, at the Indian Film Festival of Alberta, where I was awarded Best Debut Director. It was officially released on August 16, 2019. Before this, I had directed a few short films that received praise early in my career. In addition to directing, I’ve recently taken on roles in cinematography, editing, and social media management.
